A black person in America interviewing rock bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Jimmy Eat World, and The Gaslight Anthem? Yes, it’s true.
Born and raised in New Jersey, my journey in the rock industry started in 2006 when I became a radio personality for New Jersey college radio station UCCR. Aside from spinning music and interviewing local bands, I was also the music director for a bit. While working at the station, I began booking shows featuring local and national bands in North Jersey. I managed to book acts such as Title Fight, Tigers Jaw, Set It Off, and Off With Their Heads.
In 2009, I began writing about music for now-defunct New Jersey music blog Fake Walls fka The NJ Underground. This led me to write for other sites such as Prefixmag, Examiner, and AXS. Some of the bands I interviewed during this time include Taking Back Sunday, The Gaslight Anthem, Title Fight, and The Story So Far. Since 2019, I've been writing about music, gaming, and anime for my own site called MP3s and NPCs. The website also showcases a plethora of events happening in Los Angeles, including improv shows, stand-up comedy, and conventions. An accompanying podcast for the site was revealed a couple years later. I relocated to Los Angeles in 2019 with hopes of working in music supervision.
Last year, I began the YouTube channel Black Man Talks Rock. The channel features random shorts and discussions about rock music, racism in rock music, and whatever else I want.
If you have AXS TV, you can catch me talking about music on select episodes of Emmy-nominated TV series Music's Greatest Mysteries.
I also produce music! I’ve unveiled a slew of original material and official remixes over the years. You can check out my stuff on Bandcamp and streaming services.
You can check out a recent interview I did with Voyage LA here, a quick chat with U.K. publication Cultrface here, and check out an old interview I did with Wysidio here.
